Guest Cast: Wolfgang Preiss -- General von Helmreich
Writers: Al Ramus and John Shaner commentary: As a prequel to capturing General Ernest von Helmreich, the Rat Patrol gets itself captured. They plan to use the general to stop an upcoming attack. However the general manages to attract the attention of a distant Nazi search party and the Rat Patrol ends up trapped in a ravine, cut off. To escape they construct a "fake panzer unit" of their own -- tricking the Germans into a retreat. They then make it to the largest of the Germans' ammo dumps which they proceed to blow up.
Jan's Notes on The Wildest Raid of All
Maybe we should also consider adding a Dietrich Gullibility factor. On a scale of 1 - 10, one
being not gullible at all and 10 being let's sell him the Brooklyn bridge, this rates a 10.
Of course, this is at the beginning so he really hasn't learned how Troy's mind works.
Troy kills around 4 directly. But the whole depot blows up, so lets say off the scale.
Hitch also "sacrifices" himself for the ultimate good of the patrol. I didn't realize
Arab women were so accommodating.
This is not one of my favourite episodes. Probably because it comes across as disjointed to me,
poor editing I guess. The by-play between the general and Troy is good. But will some one explain
to me why when they take the general in to the camp, they are all standing around pointing
rifles at one another. It just made no sense to me.
