Stan

(Siberian Husky)

Stan has been adopted! More info on his new home to come.

Stan was rescued from the Town Lake Animal Center in Austin. Stan (named after Stan Laurel, as in Laurel and Hardy) is a red-and-white neutered male with white-blue eyes, about 3 years old, about 70 pounds; he has a soft, relatively thick coat, and full tail; he knows "sit" and "down,". He's non-aggressive toward big and little dogs and big and little humans, and doesn't squabble if you take away his food dish. He will chase and catch cats. He's current on all his shots, is heartworm and parasite free and is on heartworm preventative.

Stan needs:

  • a house with no cats (no exceptions)
  • a yard with a six-foot-high and/or hot-wired fence
  • to be an indoor/outdoor dog and to spend his evenings indoors with the family
He behaves himself on car rides, but gets excitable when he's been cooped up for a long time and is let out to stretch his legs. When he has a chance to run around, he's beautiful to watch. He'll gallop about, stop to sniff plants, gallop some more, then settle down for a long tummy rub. The vet reports that he has a very healthy, very low heartbeat and calls him a true athlete. He has dug his way out of a pen and come inside the house; he has also jumped a low fence, wandered around, and returned to the house. He's made it clear he'd rather be inside, even if confined to the kitchen. He doesn't think the porch counts.

On walks he runs energetically for a few minutes, then slows down to walk along at a nice pace on the leash. He's not a persistent lunger and puller once he understands your limits. Also, his rough play isn't very rough, although he needs to be taught not to jump up or mouth your wrist. He's peppy, happy, playful, and eager for hugs, but will need a firm hand to help him settle down.

There's a standard donation to Rescue to adopt Stan.
